Vehicle tracking software provides tracking users with the interface that allows them to view their vehicles movements, positions and status. In addition, it is within the vehicle tracking software that users are able to access the reports and other tools that help businesses to manage their vehicle fleets.
In today’s market tracking suppliers provide 2 main types of tracking software; these are web based and ‘Thin Client’. Both of these require an internet connection to be able to receive tracking data and updates but the difference is that a thin client application needs to be installed onto a PC and a web based application is accessed via a web browser, such as Internet Explorer.
Thin client and web based applications are both able to provide the same features and functionality but there can be differences in accessibility and speed. Thin client applications are installed directly onto PC’s so that users can benefit from faster load times. Some businesses may prefer the convenience of a web based tracking system as these can be accessed from any PC that has an internet connection.
Both types of system provide the same high levels of security and customers are not normally limited to the number of users they can setup on the tracking software, although this is always worth checking with the tracking supplier before committing to a purchase.
