Research shows that worker Health & Safety is now a key reason as to why companies are taking on vehicle telematics systems. These systems are highly regarded and classed on many occasions as an essential business tool.
With this in mind fleet drivers are said to be more likely to be involved in a road accident and than other road users and fleet managers are therefore installing tracking systems to deal with driver behaviour as well as cut costs and increase their fleet’s productivity.
By having accurate information on drivers such as their speed, whether they are harsh on the brakes or accelerator can lead to driver training and therefore potentially reduce the accidents on the road. This allows managers to identify training needs of individual drivers rather than have to role out training across all employees which are costly and time consuming.
By preventing accidents this can also have a knock on financial effect to other areas such as, reduce insurance premiums, repair costs and leasing of further vehicles.
A Facilities Management company ‘Romec’ are said to have cut back on road accidents involving their staff by 28% since having their 1000 service vehicles fitted with tracking devices. They have also seen a reduction in fines of 26%.
Certain analysts predict that tracking is set to see rapid expansion in the coming years.
