Tracking software is what allows users to view their vehicle’s tracking data. These applications provide a range of real time and historic tracking data features including: route planning, live mapping and a range of reports that include daily activity, sites visited and out of hours journeys to name a few.
Vehicle tracking applications generally fall into 2 main categories. These are ‘Web Based’ and ‘Thin Client’. Both of these systems have their benefits and it is important that you make the right choice to suit your business needs. Importantly, both of these types of system offer the same high levels of security.
A ‘Web Based’ application is accessed via an internet browser such as ‘Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox (Always ensure with tracking providers that your internet browser will be compatible before purchasing). The benefit of these systems is that a user is able to access the tracking system from a PC that has an internet connection.
A ‘Thin Client’ application is a small program that needs to be installed onto each PC that will need to have access to the system. Again, these also need to have an internet connection to function properly. Whilst these systems are not as accessible as Web Based solutions they can offer richer functionality as the software is installed onto the PC.
