Vehicle tracking has enjoyed growing popularity with fleet managers, after an initially slow uptake. In times of economic peril, fleet productivity is essential.
GPS (Global Positioning System) tracking works by satellites transmitting a signal to a receiver that is fitted into a vehicle. Most tracking solutions have a feature which displays your vehicles locations on a map. Managers use this feature in particular to improve their customer service, as they are able to identify which vehicle is closest to where the customer needs them to be, making their businesses as fast and reliable as possible.
Maps are the ‘tip of the iceberg’ when it comes to the applications that a tracking system can provide. Fleet managers have found that features that provide information on the vehicle such as speed, direction, braking and idling are increasingly valuable.
Fuel duty recently increased, adding an extra strain to businesses that are already feeling the pinch of the credit crunch. As a general rule, the more efficiently a vehicle is driven, the more fuel efficient a vehicle is. Managers need to raise this issue with employees who are driving inefficiently, so that they can improve their driving performance, and money can be saved on fuel.
