Vehicle tracking systems help to maximise a vehicle’s security. A stolen vehicle that is fitted with a tracking system stands a much better chance of being recovered and quickly enough to prevent any serious damage to the vehicle.
It is common for insurance companies to insist on a vehicle security tracking system as a condition of providing the insurance. This is especially the case for vehicles such as motor homes and sports and executive cars which are common targets for vehicle thieves. Insurance companies usually prefer a Thatcham TQA standard tracking system or Thatcham Cat 5 system to be installed.
Tracking systems involve the discreet installation of a small device into each vehicle. The tracking application does not just monitor the vehicles location when the ignition is on; they also identify security issues when the ignition is off such as movement without ignition and sudden knocks or vibrations.
The control centre that the tracking supplier provides is manned 24 hours a day and they will call the vehicle’s owner to confirm if the vehicle has been stolen if any suspicious activity is detected. If the vehicle is stolen then they will notify Police and work with them to recover the vehicle.
Vehicle security systems generally require customers to pay upfront costs for the hardware and installation service. Following this payment is either a monthly, annual or lifetime subscription.
