GPS or global positioning systems have been created for a variety of different reasons. The most popular use in recent years for GPS have been the vehicle tracking devices that allow industry fleets to manage their cars, trucks, and vans.

Some have even used GPS devices to track boats. Some products are only sold through an authorized dealer, which means that they are bought by heavy industry and shipping companies.

GPS tracking devices can be used for many different reasons within a business. For example they can help car rental places keep track of their cars, improve costs, and find out what drivers are not doing their job correctly. In the last few years security has been added to vehicles. Most manufacturers offer alarm systems with audio tones. You can also buy steering wheel bars to help the car from being stolen. It was during the inception of these other security devices that GPS started to gain a name. Individuals who were extremely worried about their car disappearing would use GPS to help them keep track of it. There are several functions such as tracking teenagers and more that could warrant you having GPS in your vehicle. We are all worried about security which makes us even more liable to want GPS tracking devices.

GPS tracking devices don’t all have the same options. Some of the company tracking devices have more options to help track a vehicle, time in the vehicle and more. Other GPS tracking devices may need to have a third party membership in order to help you track the vehicle. These monitoring systems usually have a monthly or yearly fee in order to get hands on tracking.

You may also consider the distance you want to track your vehicle. For instance, if you are not worried about your car getting off the UK on a ferry you might go for a lesser system than one that can be tracked in European countries. You also have the choice in purchasing amplifiers to products like handheld GPS systems.

Pets and GPS

Pets are very important to their families. We don’t want to lose a loved one and several of the GPS manufacturers realise this. If your pet ever gets outside, doesn’t come home, or is lost you will be able to find your pet again as long as you have GPS.

GPS offers peace of mind to anyone who uses the system. After all you don’t want to lose your pet early in their life just because you failed to take proper precautions. So a GPS tracking system can be used. Obviously you still have to pay attention to where your pets are and use your common sense, but they can aid in recovery of a lost pet if that occurs. There are many types of GPS devices you can use on pets. Some of these are waterproof, weather resistant, and can monitor their body functions. The most advanced will read heart rate, blood pressure, and body temperature, which helps you to determine if your pet is safe when lost or when you are away from home.

You will still need to decide how much you want to spend on your pet and what type of device to purchase. Some of the GPS tracking devices for pets can be implanted under their skin, in their pet tags, or as a collar.

GPS devices are not just for pets, they can help offer you less worry about people, cars, objects, and other things that might be important to you.

Children and Teenagers

Parents often worry excessively about their children and teenagers. They want to make sure their child is safe even if they are in the hands of a care giver or school. It might seem a little obsessive to have GPS devices for your children, but consider a few examples first.

Your child may be learning to walk, run, or crawl. If you want to monitor them without having to stop your work you could have a GPS device on their shoe or clothing. This can prevent them from getting into hazardous areas or hurt themselves as they get older. Parents like you just want reassurance that their child will be safe. So what will your GPS device tell you?

A GPS system will link to a satellite. These satellites were first created in order to monitor governments, military, and possible targets. Now anyone with the right code and service can link to the satellite for a real time signal on their GPS device. The device can be set for a specific area, for example on children; if you want to know if your child leaves the backyard you can have the GPS send a signal. Other GPS devices will monitor heart rate, body temperature and blood pressure.

Are there specific reasons you might want to use GPS devices with children? Of course there are. You may not want to use them in the house, but you may find that when your child goes to a concert, mall, or other busy location you want to know exactly where they are. Busy places are hot spots for kidnappings or temporary loss of children. By using a GPS device you can find out if your child is moving out of the area they should be in and even to a degree what speed they might be moving.

As children get older they are usually allowed to do more without their parents hovering around them, but you don’t have to give up all of the control. You can have a GPS device on them in order to make sure they arrive at their destination on time and without trouble.

GPS can be problematic. You don’t want to give absolute faith that it will work a hundred percent of the time. Children can find the devices, turn them off or leave them somewhere. They can also be interfered with or go out of range before you notice something is wrong. Common sense is the main way to keep your children safe. More than that you should also keep a watchful eye on your children and teach them how to protect themselves. Don’t let them travel alone in places that aren’t safe; teach them what you as a child learned from your parents. By giving your trust your children will be more likely to behave accordingly rather than disrespecting your rules.

Don’t let the GPS be about what you can’t control, and let it offer a bit of relief. Make sure you compare GPS devices for what they do and what they cost to ensure your child will always be safe.

What is GPS?

You might have read the information above and still be a little confused as to what GPS actually is. GPS stands for global position system. The system is made up of 24 different satellites in space. These satellites will orbit space sometimes being in a different position. As the satellites move around they will map the area they are currently able to view. The coordinates of longitude and latitude are then given to help you track the signal from the device on your car, pet, or person.

How Can GPS Be Helpful?

Well we have looked at a few ways GPS can be helpful, but we also have a list for you.

1. When you are parents you are able to track your children and teenagers without interfering in their lives.
2. Teenagers are able to go about their business of hanging out with friends without embarrassing phone calls.
3. Those who might have elderly parents can use GPS to track their movements and make sure they arrive home safe from vacations or shopping trips.
4. GPS is about helping the customer, especially if you use them with fleets.
5. You can tell customers exactly when they should expect a delivery or pickup without being too far off the mark.
6. GPS can also help you monitor employees. Sometimes saving money is important and when an employee charges for time not on the clock or when they speed using up too much gas you can find out.
7. GPS also helps remind you of needed maintenance on your vehicle or fleet to ensure that everyone will be safe when driving.
8. GPS lets you know what employee is closest to a customer that may need a pickup or drop off. This helps you speed up delivery.
9. GPS can also help cut down on drivers logs. For in town fleets a driver’s log is only needed to get paid. It is not like highway trucking in which a driver has to have a log for the police to see if they get stopped. It will offer the information when needed.
10. The last reason you might want to have GPS is the insurance premiums you pay. Insurance companies have been offering discounts for vehicles with GPS systems. It helps recovery and means insurance companies have to pay out less in claims.
