Many UK companies who are considering or are keen to introduce a GPS vehicle tracking system to their business may have concerns as to how their drivers will respond. Indeed for some companies their drivers may have raised their objections in advance of the system being installed.
The reality is many companies that introduce a tracking system do so to achieve business benefits such as reducing operational costs and increasing productivity, rather than to be out on a ‘witch hunt’ against their drivers. It has often been said by employers that if a driver is working hard and fulfilling their daily duties then they should not have any objections to tracking as it will only serve to acknowledge their good performance. Many drivers that are concerned about tracking are so due common misconceptions.
Many tracking systems now include a feature that allows drivers not to be tracked outside of business hours. Whilst the system still records the vehicles mileage it does not report on the locations it has visited, thus protecting a driver’s privacy.
Many companies that have installed tracking use the system to generate reports based on driver performance. These reports are used to produce league tables with rewards for the best performing drivers, encouraging drivers to perform at their best levels.
