Tracking is a solution that offers all kinds of company’s different benefits and is by no means restricted to the transportation industry. Construction site managers have been able to use tracking to gain greater visibility as to the movements and locations of their vehicles, materials and onsite workers.
Tracking vehicles and employees not only allows greater visibility but just as importantly increases the security of site vehicles and the safety of workers.
Vehicle tracking accurately monitors a vehicles real time location and can generate reports based on their daily activity. A more advanced tracking system feature is called a PTO (Power Take Off) switch; this feature records the activity of in-vehicle mechanisms such as a crane or tipper. The tracking system can provide real notifications of when these mechanisms are activated and then deactivated allowing site managers to know when and where materials are being moved.
Lone worker tracking monitors the movements and locations of individuals. Hand held radios (Walkie Talkie’s) are already used by many onsite workers for communication and some tracking suppliers provide these devices with tracking already integrated. This means that site workers can be accurately monitored without the need to carry extra kit. These types of tracking devices include a Panic/SOS button that can be pressed to raise an immediate alert that an onsite worker is in urgent need of assistance. In addition many of these devices can detect a ‘man down’ and raise an immediate alert.
These types of tracking devices can help significantly increase the safety of construction site workers.
