How do you keep your company out of the black in the gloomy winter months ahead? With fleet management conferences becoming more frequent and tracking companies taking stands in exhibitions to demonstrate their products and show companies why they can’t be without tracking.
With volatile fuel costs having major impacts on all areas of retail and the main aim now is to minimise costs without jeopardising the customer service offered to their customers.
At the start of 2009, fuel costs were around eighty five pence per litre but now were coming into the start of October 2009 were likely to be paying more like one pound and ten pence per litre.
Such companies as Hauliers are being hit by fuel duty rises all the time and it is reported that Alistair Darling will be putting the duty up again in April 2010. Fuel usage is a large part of the overall running of a business and they are being put at risk due to fuel costs.
One way of reducing the fuel consumption to companies is by having a fleet management system installed. Companies such as Asda are said to have invested in systems that allow them routing capabilities and scheduling tools to make their job of manoeuvring around 22 depots that deliver to around 250 stores. By doing this they are said to able to reduce the amount of miles covered by their 1000 strong fleet of vehicles and 1600 trailers.
