TomTom WORK assists companies in going green. In September of 2009 they announced that they had added additional features onto their WEBFLEET system. This vehicle management and communication system helps companies not only track their entire fleet but helps to reduce their carbon footprint which in the long term helps to reduce the impact they might be having on the environment.
By using the WEBFLEET vehicle management and communications systems, fleet managers can use the data collected to run reports on their vehicles concerning their carbon footprint. This can be done for the entire fleet or solely for selected vehicles.
WEBFLEET does this by calculating carbon emissions from the recorded mileage and fuel consumption of the fleet’s vehicles, fleet managers can then use this information in ways to reduce their mileage and fuel consumptions, therefore their carbon footprint.
A function of the WEBFLEET system is the TomTom WORK Active solution. This system can pick up on unnecessary idling times and reports on the information it finds through the WEBFLEET product. Fleet managers can ensure drivers are aware of these times of idling and request a reduction in them where possible, offering solutions and help where needed.
Eco-friendly driving styles can be encouraged through this system as drivers that accelerate fast or are often harsh on the brakes can be given driver training as this all adds to the fuel consumption of the vehicle.
