Stolen Vehicle Tracking

If you own or are thinking of buying a high price or high performance vehicle then you will most likely require a Stolen Vehicle Tracking system.  Stolen Vehicle Tracking systems are extremely effective at fighting car crime and help the police quickly recover stolen vehicles.

Many insurance companies now insist that a tracking system is installed before they will insure the vehicle. In most cases however the insurance discounts available from installing stolen vehicle tracking far outweigh the costs of the tracking systems.  Even where a tracking system is not a pre-requisit many insurance companies will offer up to a 20% discount for TQA accredited tracking solutions.

How Does Stolen Vehicle Tracking Work

Stolen Vehicle tracking only comes in to effect when a vehicle is stolen they cannot be used to track the owners movements. Most systems detect unauthorised movement of the vehicle (i.e. being towed away) however if the vehicle is stolen with the keys the owner must report the theft. If the vehicle is stolen the owner is required to obtain a crime number from the police which is then given to the tracking company who will then liaise directly with the police to recover the vehicle.

How Much Does It Cost

There are two elements to the price of a Stolen Vehicle tracking system.  The upfront hardware and installation costs and the ongoing costs for monitoring the vehicle. The ongoing costs are usually paid annually or most companies offer a ‘Life Time’ option which covers the cost of monitoring the vehicle for as long as you own it. If you are likely to own the vehicle for more than 3 years a ‘Life Time’ subscription is the best option. Which System Should I Choose

There are several Stolen Vehicle tracking systems on the market, TrackCompare compare the prices of the top 3 providers who offer the fastest recovery times and most reliable solutions. When selecting your system consider whether you would like European protection and also look out for whether the cost of returning the Stolen Vehicle to the owner is included, this is sometimes charged as an extra.

What Happens When I Change My Vehicle

Most Stolen Vehicle tracking systems can be transferred to a new vehicle however this can be costly and in many cases it is cheaper to reinstall a new system when you buy a new car. Should you select a ‘Life Time’ subscription option this is not transferable to a new owner.

Who Are Thatcham And What Is TQA

Thatcham are an independant body that work with insurers to asses the security of vehicles and the effectiveness of vehicle security products. TQA is an acronym for Thatcham Quality Accreditation (also called Category Q or 5 accreditation) and means that the product is recognised by the insurance industry. If a product does not carry the TQA, Category Q or 5 accreditation it is not recognised by the insurance industry. TrackCompare only compare insurance approved products.

How Is Stolen Vehicle Tracking Installed And Will It Damage My Vehicle?

Stolen Vehicle Tracking is installed covertly behind the dashboard of the vehicle by an accredited engineer. There will be no visible signs that the system has been fitted,  no damage will be caused to the vehicle and the vehicle warranty will not be affected.

Yes I got a tracking system to cut down my insurance premiums, but make sure it is Thatcham approved. Otherwise the insurance companies will not accept it and will not lower your insurance premiums. There are plenty of Thatcham approved systems out there to choose from.
