In a recent report a review was carried out on a product called TracKing launched in the United States, which is a micro GPS tracking unit. The guy exploring this was very impressed with the amount of data that it could hold.

The TracKing is provided by Spychest and is different in that it is designed to be hidden. This I should imagine will be controversial to employees and employers. The information generated can be viewed in three different formats. Text based reports can be generated that shows locations that have been visited, speeds etc.

Included in this information is a map mode which is able to display a moving icon of the vehicle which indicates the speed of travel, direction and stops. You are able to zoom in where necessary. The software is also integrated with Google Earth and can therefore show street level detail.

The tracking system spans no more than the size of two small AA batteries which are actually uses to power it. There is a magnet attached which has the power to hold it beneath the dash or such places.

The GPS reception is said to exceptional and the battery life lasts approximately three weeks which is helped by the power saving sleep mode that it encounters when the vehicle has been stationary for a certain period of time.

There are no monthly fees as the data is transferred to your computer via USB.

This type of tracking system could be used for self monitoring, to keep track of your own expenses for example. Alternatively you could monitor you children’s driving habits to ensure they are driving safely. Businesses of course could use this but as before it could be extremely controversial if placed without knowledge.

If this is of interest to you then you will be please to know that it comes in at a very reasonable $270.
