It appears that the EU is taking into consideration the prospect of implementing speed limiters into commercial vehicles as a mandatory requirement in order to reduce carbon emissions.
The news is thought to be included in a draft report made by the European Parliament which had been leaked by a news agency.
The draft document looks at proposals to implement such systems which will prevent vehicles such as vans and small trucks from exceeding 74.6mph. They are able to justify this move it’s thought as commercial vehicles do not have a need to ever exceed this limit and that the introduction and instalment of such systems will be fairly cheap.
There have been many issues surrounding carbon emissions between the European Parliament and Commission and last year the Commission actually imposed statutory emissions standards on manufacturers of vehicles.
All this was done to achieve a reduction in emissions of around a third by 2020. Organisations who are unable to do this and do not meet the requirements might be set to face large financial penalties.
Vehicle Tracking Systems are also playing a huge part in reducing carbon emissions and tracking suppliers are helping companies both in the public and private sectors to make their fleets more fuel efficient and generally more environmentally friendly.
