In these difficult times of economic recession the majority of companies are focusing on cutting spending and saving money to ensure that they get through these tough times. Making savings can prove difficult especially doing so without affecting productivity and operational efficiency.
However, there is good news for companies that operate a fleet of vehicles as they are able to easily make substantial savings on their fleet’s operating costs.
Companies that have introduced a GPS (Global Positioning System) fleet tracking system have been able to achieve substantial fuel savings. Using a tracking system to monitor fuel wasting activity such as idling and speeding, which in turn reduces a fleet’s fuel consumption, can dramatically decrease a company’s monthly fuel bill.
There are tracking suppliers that offer more advanced fuel monitoring tracking systems which are aimed more towards HGV fleets. These systems integrate with a vehicle’s CAN-bus system to feedback vehicle specific data such as MPG performance, fuel consumed, fuel tank levels and engine RPM. This data allows fleet managers to accurately monitor fuel consumption and driver habits to keep fuel consumption to an absolute minimum. Many companies that have installed these systems have been able to reduce their monthly fuel costs by as much as 15%.
