Drivers who leave their vehicles idling i.e. engine running whilst they leave the driving seat to make a delivery are leaving themselves open to vehicle theft. A new survey shows that around 21% of drives are leaving their engines running whilst they get out of the vehicle to make a delivery and that car crime must be taken more seriously.
Most car crime seems to be opportunistic and therefore preventable at times and currently 13% of all crimes committed are that made up of car theft.
The fleet industry suffer huge losses with vehicle thefts and by having a vehicle tracking device installed can reduce the risk of theft and prevent it happening and also help with the retrieval of a vehicle should theft occur in a quick and timely manner.
Vehicle tracking is implemented for many reasons but it is not only put in place to reduce fuel costs and track drivers. Health and Safety and security of the fleet are just as important and can be greatly helped with tracking.
Drivers should always turn off their engines and take their keys with them when exiting the vehicle and avoid leaving any valuable items on display.
