Companies that operate a fleet of vehicles can greatly benefit from introducing a real time GPS vehicle tracking system.
These systems use devices that make use of GPS satellites that orbit the Earth to accurately calculate their global position. Most tracking systems record their location, heading and speed of travel once every minute and send this data back to the user once every one to five minutes via the mobile phone network (GPRS).
In addition to real time tracking services these systems normally offer a range of reports as well. These reports provide an overview of a fleets daily activity and performance. Other reports can provide specific data including sites visited, timesheet, mileage reports and out of hours activity.
Many companies use real time GPS vehicle tracking systems to reduce their fleet’s fuel costs. Activities that waste fuel and reduce vehicles fuel efficiency such as idling and speeding can be monitored. When vehicles idle or speed excessively a live tracking system can provide an immediate alert notification via email or text message (SMS). These alerts can be used to correct non fuel efficient driving behaviour and identify potential training issues. Alerts can also be provided for a wide range of other events including location and time based notifications.
