Alerts are often an essential vehicle tracking feature for many businesses. They are able to provide notification of exceptional or specified events via SMS (text message), email or an in-application notification. The benefit of real time alerts is that they keep fleet managers informed of their fleets progress and activity without them having to look at or refer to the tracking system.
Alerts are especially useful when there are concerns over a driver’s performance or there is a need to closely monitor a fleet’s speeding and idling. Alert notifications allow managers to take immediate action to prevent any further issues. In addition, many tracking systems also provide alerts should a vehicle enter the London congestion zone. This prevents non-payment of congestion zone charges, which in turn prevents unnecessary fines.
Alerts can be associated with Geofences (a specified location monitored by the tracking system by means of a virtual ‘ring fence’). Should a vehicle enter or exit a specified Geofence then the system can provide an immediate alert notification. In addition, alerts can also be setup to be time based. This means that if a vehicle arrives at a location outside of a specified time window then an alert notification will be sent, additionally an alert can be provided if a vehicle departs outside of a specified time window.
