Mobile Phones have been able to be tracked for some time by using the GSM/GPRS (mobile phone network) signal to locate the handset through methods such as Cell ID. However these methods of tracking have proved to be not accurate enough for many companies. Many of today’s high-end mobile phone/PDA handsets have GPS (Global Positioning System) integrated. This means that GPS handsets can now be tracked accurately to within 3 – 10m accuracy.
Mobile Phone tracking has been popular with businesses since its inception but due to the price reductions seen in recent years the system has become increasingly popular into the consumer market. More individuals are using mobile phone tracking to ensure their child’s or love one’s safety.
Mobile phone tracking is ideal for many businesses as it tracks individuals whether they are travelling by car, train or on foot and it is an item that the majority carry with them regardless. The mobile phone can only be tracked when it is switched on which can be viewed as an advantage or drawback depending on the requirement of tracking.
Mobile Phone tracking, when used with other business applications that are now available for many handsets/PDAs, can provide a cost effective tracking, communication and field reporting tool.
