Vehicle tracking is a developing technology that uses the internet to provide real time data to users via their tracking applications. Due to the cost savings that can be achieved by installing an online vehicle tracking system and the price decreases seen in recent years there has never been a better time to install a tracking system and reap the rewards.
There are 2 common types of vehicle tracking applications, these are ‘web based’ and ‘thin client’ applications. Both of these systems require an internet connection and will perform at their best and most stable with a Broadband connection. Slower internet connections can lead to a frustrating experience and worst of all ‘time outs’ where you are not able to view your vehicles tracking data.
Thin client applications requires users to download or install a small application on to each PC they intend to access the tracking application from. Depending on the tracking system installed these systems are able to provide a full range of alerting and reporting functionality.
Web based solutions do not require the user to download any software and are therefore accessible from any PC with an internet connection and compatible browser. These systems require the user to access the application via their web browser and can also provide a full range of reporting and alerting features.
