An incentive scheme has just been released by the government which will see a discount of five thousand pounds on the purchase of an ultra-low carbon vehicle.
It also seems that an infrastructure costing around thirty million will be put in place for recharging facilities for electric vehicles and is going to be rolled out throughout certain regions of the UK. All this being part of a strategy to reduce carbon emissions.
From January 2011 it is said that the plug-in car grant will be available for both private and business use. The grant provides the user with 25% towards the vehicle at the point of purchase with a maximum grant of five thousand pounds being given. To qualify vehicles will have to pass a range of strict performance and safety criteria and also emit ultra-low levels of carbon.
The infrastructure of plug-in places will first begin in London, Milton Keynes and the North East. Plug-in places will first start to appear in shopping centres, car parks and some streets. Eleven Thousand plug-in places are said to be installed over the coming three years.
The Transport Secretary is reported to have said that decarbonising transport isn’t an aspiration it is indeed a reality.
