Lone worker tracking covers many different devices that track individuals using GPS (Ground Positioning System) technologies. Whilst other tracking technologies are available, GPS is by far the most accurate and reliable. Below are some of the most common devices used for tracking that have been designed for different working environments:
Mobile Phones
GPS enabled mobile phones/PDAs can be used to track individuals. This is a very popular type of tracking system as it does not require the individual to carry additional devices and is less likely to be forgotten as many individuals make a point of not leaving home without their mobile phone.

These devices are usually small enough to comfortably fit into a pocket so they do not become a burden. Many of these devices use GPS for better accuracy and often feature a SOS/Panic button that allows the individual to quickly and discreetly notify their office/control centre that they are in distress.
Identity Badges
These devices are mainly focused towards the utility, health and home visit services. These are designed to be discreet tracking devices that form part of the employee’s uniform. These devices tend to be aimed at employee safety as they allow the individual to raise an alarm to their office/control centre when in trouble.
2 Way Radios (Walkie Talkies)
Some companies provide 2 Way Radios integrated with tracking devices. These are often used in large or hazardous working environments where these devices are already used such as building sites or airports etc. These devices are again aimed towards safety and often include features such as SOS/Panic Buttons and automatic ‘man down’ alerts.
