More companies that employee lone workers that are required to work in environments where the safety maybe at risk are using lone worker tracking systems to ensure their employees wellbeing.
Lone worker tracking units are available in a variety of devices such as small tags, identity badges, walkie talkies and mobile phones. The nature of the lone workers job role will most likely determine which of these devices are best suited for them. For example, lone workers that are required to visit customer’s homes, such as health or utility workers, tend to use identity badges for their discretion as these are already a part of their uniform. Identity badges generally do not actively track individuals but provide a means of activating an alert, via a pull cord trigger, when in distress and in need of urgent assistance. Once the alert has been activated the system will start to track.
Other devices such as 2 way radios can also be used as lone worker tracking devices. These are suitable for individuals that work on construction sites, airports or provide security services. Like the identity badges, these devices provide a means of activating an alert when in distress and many of these devices can also provide automated ‘man down’ alerts.
