It seems that technology moves so fast now that it’s sometimes hard to keep up. A couple of years go by and then a new device and idea comes out as to how the world can keep in touch with each other and be able to have tight controls on their business.
GPS, Mobile phones and computers all seem to have integrated to produce vehicle tracking software and systems and a new technology has been born into that of Vehicle Telematics.
GPS vehicle tracking systems are generally made up of two components, the actual tracking / location hardware and the software. The actual unit itself can be hardwired into the vehicle that requires tracking. The device itself uses GPS to locate the vehicle and then this information is sent across (transmitted) to a central server.
Systems can offer 60 second updates so management can keep a constant eye on their fleet and make crucial and strategic plans in a proactive manner.
Fleet activity can also be recorded and historical data looked into giving management a good idea of areas in the business that may be failing or need actions taken and or training offered to their drivers.
