The GPS tracking world has developed in leaps and bounds over the past few years, and as a result, there are now many providers offering tracking solutions. It can be difficult to choose which form of tracking is best for you but it helps help you to know that there are generally two main choices; lone worker or fleet tracking solutions.

Lone worker tracking solutions are not installed into vehicles, but are carried by a person. Mobile phones and identity badges are the most popular way for this system to be used, and are widespread throughout organisations which provide essential services, where employees often work alone in conditions that make them vulnerable.

There can be discreet panic buttons that can be pressed on the phone or badge that will provide an alert to the office user, or emergency services, if pressed, providing the location of the employee.

Fleet vehicle tracking solutions are installed into each vehicle in a fleet and are used for a multitude of purposes. Some companies use theirs to see if their employees are working to their full contracted hours. Others use them as expenses management systems, where time sheets and expenses claims can be submitted through the system. Alternative uses are for route optimisation, analysis of driving behaviour and for insurance premium reductions.
