There are 2 main types of vehicle tracking system available today, those are fleet tracking and anti theft/insurance approved tracking. Depending on the requirements of the company or customer determines which system is best suited for their needs.
Ant theft tracking is focused on increasing the security of a vehicle. The majority of these systems require tracking hardware to be covertly installed into a vehicle which, in the event of being stolen, is able to detect suspicious activity and determine the vehicles real time location. When suspicious activity (sudden vibration/impact or movement with the ignition off) takes place the system immediately alerts the tracking supplier who then confirms with the owner that the vehicle has been stolen. The control centre than liaise with the Police to ensure a speedy recovery of the vehicle.
Anti theft tracking is now a common requirement by vehicle insurance providers especially for high-end executive/sports cars.
Fleet tracking also increases the security of a vehicle but it’s focused more on offering companies operational benefits. These systems are used by many companies to reduce costs as well as increasing the productivity of their drivers. Fleet tracking is helping many businesses to get through this recession despite the rising fuel costs.
