More and more companies that provide essential services, such as the ambulance service, are relying on vehicle tracking to improve their efficiency.
There has been a lot of reports in the press about the number of minutes it takes the emergency services to arrive at the location of an incident once it has been reported via the 999 number. There are now guidelines in place, partly due to this coverage, regarding the speed with which an incident should be dealt with, as it can mean life or death for the victim.
Installing vehicle tracking allows the emergency services to see where their employees are at any time. Once a call comes in they can then route the nearest vehicle to the scene, via the fastest route, saving precious time. Geo-fences can be set up around hospitals in the district so once the ambulance arrives at its destination hospital the controller is alerted and can then route the ambulance to the next call in that area.
The emergency services can also use personal tracking devices to improve the safety of its employees. These devices are often fitted with panic alarms that can be silently activated to get help.
