Vehicle tracking is a great way to reduce a company’s fuel bill as it monitors fuel wasting activities such as idling, speeding and poor journey planning to name but a few. Fuel costs continue to rise and here are some tips to help keep fuel wastage to a minimum.

A good start to prevent wasting fuel is not to leave a window open when driving at high speeds and use the air conditioning instead. However, when travelling at slower speeds it is better to have the window open and the air condition off. Many people also leave the air conditioning running unnecessarily which also wastes fuel.

Driving efficiently, avoiding heavy breaking and acceleration, and choosing the right gear for your speed has a huge effect on fuel consumption. Smooth driving can also help save money through reduced wear and tear on the vehicle.

Keeping a vehicle well maintained and serviced will help ensure that it remains fuel efficient. Ensuring that your tyres are not under inflated and that the wheels are correctly aligned can prevent fuel loses of up to 50%.

Finally, ensure that you keep your vehicles weight to a minimum. Carrying unnecessary heavy items in the boot or empty roof racks will only reduce vehicles fuel efficiency.
