Many companies are suffering hard times during this economic recession. Vehicle tracking is a solution that is helping many businesses reduce their operational costs and increase their fleet’s productivity.

Vehicle tracking is a solution that requires a small device to be installed into a vehicle. Once installed the device receives regular signals from GPS (Ground Position System) satellites that orbit the Earth. The data from these satellites is used by the tracking device to accurately calculate its current global position. In addition GPS data is also used to calculate speed and direction. This data is then sent back to the user via the mobile phone network and internet.

A vehicle tracking application is what allows a user to access the system. It provides a range of real time and historic features designed to help companies manage their fleet and costs.

The real time features include live mapping and alerts. Live mapping displays the current location, status (moving, stationary etc), speed and direction of tracked vehicles as well other time related journey information. Alerts can be setup to notify of key events such as vehicles arriving at predetermined locations or drivers engaging in fuel inefficient activities such as excessive speeding and idling.

Historic reports automatically produced by tracking systems allow users to review journey and driver performance data.
