Another use for GPS tracking recently appeared in an article written in an American publication. The DEA recently discovered 360lbs of marijuana loaded onto crates at an American port. They executed a search warrant and hid a GPS tracking device amid the marijuana, they then tracked the haul via GPS tracking software on a computer. When the shipment arrived at its destination the police were able to arrest three men, who are currently awaiting trial.
The use of GPS tracking by police and government intelligence agencies could prove vital in fighting illegal drug and arms trade. For example a GPS tracking device could be hidden amongst a crate of illegal arms. This could allow a government agency to track the arms to its destination. This in turn could allow them to arrest the main culprits instead of just the minor ones.
At the moment one of the highest rising international crimes is people trafficking especially women who are being forced into the sex trade. Perhaps a GPS tracking device placed upon an undercover agent posing as a person wanting to gain entry into a country
Illegally could provide an answer to help combat this trade in human beings.
Again this demonstrates the versatility of GPS tracking and its ability to help in many different areas of our lives.
