GPS tracking devices can save you time and money, at work and at home. One of the most common uses for a GPS device is in a vehicle tracking system. The applications that are included within a vehicle tracking system vary, and there are many different products to choose from. However, the most common functions include mileage reports, time sheets and vehicle histories.

Mileage reports are valuable because they can provide validity to expenses claims and help your business to plan its delivery/service routes more efficiently. Employees who are not fulfilling their working hours can be easily identified, as can exemplary workers. Having the knowledge of where your vehicle is, day and night, also has security benefits. Some insurers can offer savings on your premiums of up to 30% if you inform them that you have an active vehicle tracking system installed.

There are portable and fixed tracking systems, with online and person to person training available from some suppliers. Vehicle tracking systems can be bought outright or on a lease basis, the most common being for 36 months, and suppliers calculate that you need to save one litre of fuel per vehicle per day in order for the technology to pay for itself.
