In Lafayette City which is in the State of Louisiana USA, one parish councilman is campaigning for all Lafayette City government vehicles to have GPS tracking devices installed after what he says are numerous instances of employees using them for personal trips.
The councilman circulated three photos which he claims shows Lafayette Government vehicles parked at a bank which where not on company business. He stated that he has regularly seen vehicles at the bank before and in various other locations in Lafayette City.
He is deeply concerned that government vehicles leave work in the mornings and know one really knows where they are for the rest of the day; he thinks a GPS tracking system would not only be helpful in checking that company vehicles are used for the right purpose but also help in managing fuel costs.
He does think that the majority of Lafayette government employees are following the policy of not using Government vehicles for private purposes, but he states that a GPS tracking system would ensure that the dishonest employees would be exposed. Also he goes on to say that GPS tracking has been used successfully in the private sector to cut the unauthorised use vehicles and reduce costs in other ways.
