The majority of people generally associate GPS tracking systems with fleet management, but nowadays GPS tracking devices are being used in many different ways in society. One such application that people would be surprised to hear is GPS tracking devices are being used to help keep people who suffer from alzheimer’s safe.
Alzheimer’s patients can quite often wander off which can be extremely dangerous, and this can obviously cause panic for family members or care workers in nursing homes. GPS tracking technology has now been adapted to enable it to track people. A small GPS tracking device can be inserted into a special wrist band, shoe or other clothing.
Once the tracking device is activated a family member or care worker can use a computer to view a person’s location at anytime, GPS tracking devices are accurate to with in three meters. Another clever application that a GPS tracking system is capable of is the ability to allow the user to set a geofence, which is basically a boundry. The user can designate a certain area that a GPS tracking device must stick to, if a person who is wearing a GPS tracking device travels outside this designated area an alarm will be activated alerting whoever is looking after that person.
