GPS tracking devices are used in many ways such as locating vehicles, tracking down a lost pet, tracking a company vehicle as it completes its day’s objectives and even following endangered wildlife such as rare birds. One particular way in which GPS tracking devices are being employed is not widely known, and that is tracking children.
Since the recovery of Jaycee Dugard, inquiries regarding GPS tracking devices for children have increased significantly. There are a number of devices available in today’s market place, these range from watches with GPS devices installed to clip on devices that can be placed in a bag or rucksack.
Experts do say that these types of devices can help but fear they might be relied on to much, giving a false sense of security. Companies who sell these types of devices do say that these devices in no way are a substitute for keeping a close eye on your children.
The majority of these devices available at the moment vibrate or light up which then helps to guide a parent to a child, they can either be activated by either the child or parent if necessary. Devices at the top end of the price scale even allow parents to set parameters, so for example if a parent sets a hundred meter parameter around their house and a child with a GPS device attached breaks that barrier an alarm will sound alerting a parent.
