GPS tracking, having first been developed by the United States Military, is now one of the most versatile modern technologies we have. For a few years after it’s development, it was not authorised for civilian use but since it was launched into the consumer markets, prices have been lowered and the variety of it’s uses have been utilised in many different forms.
The main use is for vehicle tracking. Vehicle tracking is very popular with companies that have a fleet of vehicles to run and need to have visibility over those vehicles at all times. Companies can protect themselves from employees abusing their expenses or mileage claims and to ensure that they are fulfilling their job role. It can also be used to identify training issues and as evidence to reward hard working employees.
Individuals, and companies, with vehicle tracking can obtain further benefit from the insurance premium reductions which can be as much as 30%.
Parents can also use tracking to monitor their children because mobile phones, which most children carry, can be tracked. The downside to this is that mobile phones can be switched off or lost but for the most part this technology means that children have more freedom, and parents have less worry about where their children are.
