Fleet are becoming increasing more aware to the importance of adhering to Duty of Care regulations set out and must do more so that they are all complying with the rules and regs.
A study carries out by Aviva has shown that there are areas that fleet managers just are not meeting. Aviva say that around 55% of fleet managers obtain details on their new prospective driver’s accident history.
Fleet managers are responsible for their employees and must ensure that an employee’s workload and driving schedules are planned well to avoid driver fatigue.
To help manage duty of care and ensure that your employee’s are well looked after, many companies are now having a vehicle tracking system installed into their fleet. This also helps with the productivity and efficiency of the fleet and increased customer satisfaction.
Fleet managers should certainly check driver’s history and validate it as a driver’s word should really not be taken as gospel although many are of course genuine. 65% of fleet managers are said to now have enforced a driver fatigue policy which has increased by around 20% since 2005 this is still not enough and there is hope that one day this will become a standard requirement.
