GPS fleet tracking software is the interface between the vehicle tracking units that are installed into the vehicles in a fleet, and the data that is displayed to the user via their screen. There are many different applications that come with tracking systems, but there are generally only two different types of system that a user will work with; PC based(Thin Client) or internet based.
PC based systems require software to be downloaded onto individual or multiple computers via CD or the internet. Companies can need to purchase additional software licenses alongside the tracking fees, which can put some companies off these systems.
Internet based tracking systems. The way this system works is the user logs onto a website that provides the GPS tracking application. No software needs to be installed onto any of the computers that will be used to access the system.
There are advantages and disadvantages to each system. Disadvantages of the internet based system are that you will not be able to view tracking data if there is a problem with your internet connection. The disadvantages of the PC based system are that they can be slightly more expensive because of the software licenses, and they are more time consuming to install.
