GPS tracking is an extremely versatile product that has revolutionised the role of fleet managers all over the UK. Fleet managers choose to install vehicle tracking into their fleet so that they can see where their workers are at all times.
There are safety benefits for this course of action, and it also acts as a deterrent should any employees not be fulfilling their contracted hours of work. There are insurance benefits, and premium reductions can be as high as 30%.
Employees can be negative towards vehicle tracking as they can see its installation as a lack of trust on their manager’s part. However, it can actually work in their favour by allowing them the opportunity to show their managers how hard they are working, and for this work to be rewarded.
GPS tracking can also be used to track a person, rather than a vehicle. A responder is put inside an ID badge or a mobile phone, often with discreet panic alarms. This form of tracking is called lone worker tracking, and is used with employees that may need to visit vulnerable or aggressive clients.
Managers have a duty of care to their employees and by providing them with a lone worker tracking system, this responsibility can be met. Employees also feel secure because they know that help will never be very far away.
