Fleet tracking applications are often feature rich and provide businesses with a great deal of functionality. These systems provide many real time features that allow tracking users to view their fleet in real time and receive updates generated by the tracking system. In addition, fleet tracking systems also provide a wide range of historic features that allow tracking users to review and compare the performance of drivers/vehicles over a period specified by the user.
The historic features provided by tracking systems are primarily the reports they are able to generate. The reports that tracking systems generate include exception reports (detailing instances of excessive idling, speeding, harsh braking etc), daily activity, sites visited, timesheet and out of hours driving. These reports are an essential tool for many companies that have installed a fleet tracking system.
In addition, many tracking systems also include a ‘Snail Trail’/Journey Playback feature that plots a journey, selected by a user, on the tracking applications map. This allows users to review their driver’s journeys and ensure that they are choosing the most efficient routes to reach their destinations.
Many businesses are also able to use reports generated by the tracking systems to ensure that drivers are working hard and this helps managers to spot any opportunities to increase productivity.
