Employees can react in a negative way to the news that their company is installing vehicle tracking into their fleet. They can see it as a lack of trust on the part of their employer.
In some cases this point of view is entirely correct. However, the majority of companies just want to ensure that their employees are performing their roles correctly, and identify areas where operational efficiency can be improved.
It is vital for managers to make sure that their workforce do not feel exploited or that their rights to privacy are being infringed, as many employees use their work vehicles for private journeys. It needs to be explained to employees that the tracking system will be used to drive productivity, improve customer service and is of benefit to employee, customer and the company.
If a workforce feel exploited then they are less likely to contribute positively to their role, initiating the kind of performance that the company was aiming to prevent by installing the tracking system in the first place.
If employees have the chance to share their opinions on the installation of a tracking system, and have their reservations discussed, in our experience they will react positively, as they feel respected and that their views are important to their employers.
