Employees are often extremely nervous about their employers installing vehicle tracking into their work vehicle. They can see it as a sign that their company does not trust them or is trying to spy on them. It is considered to be another symptom of our ‘big brother’ culture. However, employers can hold the opinion that employees that resist vehicle tracking have ‘something to hide’.
Employees will react better to the addition of a vehicle tracking system if their employers emphasise the benefits of this system to them. The benefits include; good performance being recognised and rewarded, and their vehicle being recovered faster if it is stolen. Even if employers discover behaviour that they are not satisfied with from the tracking system, then it is not necessarily bad news from the employee’s point of view. Training issues can be identified and advice provided which can benefit employees greatly in their career.
Vehicle tracking systems also have insurance benefits for the company; some providers can even offer premium discounts of up to 30%. This is because vehicles are much easier to recover when they are tracked, and damages can be minimised by a quicker recovery. Of course, ultimately the reason why companies install vehicle tracking systems is often to keep an eye on their fleet of vehicles but there are many other significant reasons, some of which benefit the employee.
