Since GPS tracking was developed in the 1960’s, and commissioned for civilian use a few years later, it applications have continued to develop. Vehicle tracking was the most notable advancement, and is now accessible to most people.

Other, newer, applications are now becoming more popular such as child tracking. In recent years there has been a lot of publicity over the safety of children, with high profile cases such as Madeleine McCann making many parents more wary of the location of their children at all times.

There are two main ways that child tracking works. The first is by mobile phones. The benefits of mobile phone tracking are that most children today own mobile phones, and so are likely to carry them if they are out with their friends. The downsides of these systems is that the phone cannot be tracked if it has no network signal or if has been switched off. Mobile phones are also a big target of theft in children.
Another method of tracking your child is radio frequency tags. The child has one tag and the parent has the other. When the child ventures outside a predetermined ‘acceptable’ area, the device alerts the parents, and pinpoints the child’s location. Many radio frequency tags also have panic alarms that the child can press if they get into trouble.
