The device that launches the emergency response is called ‘MySOS’, and is so small it can be attached to the owners belt or their key ring. The system can also be downloaded as an application for Blackberry mobiles.

Skyguard’s customers can provide detailed information of themselves to Skyguard, such as addresses, next of kin details, work details, a photo and even important medical details (such as any conditions suffered and which medications they are takiing to treat that condition). The Skyguard system uses GPS technology to trace the location of their customer when the alarm is activated. The UK based response centre will talk to the customer if it’s safe to do so, or listen in. They can then co-ordinate an emergency response in the country the alarm call is originating from and pass important information to the customer’s employers or relatives.

Skyguard’s system is already used by approx 50% of Police forces in England to protect their officers, and by thousands of others. The success of the system was so encouraging that it prompted the owners of Skyguard to launch Skyguard international, providing peace of mind to Brits abroad, and possibly saving lives.

The device utilises GPS and GPRS technologies in order to ascertain and transmit its location. When the SOS button is pressed, the device connects to Skyguard’s Incident Management Centre, which is certified to the highest industry standards including; BS 8484, BS 5979 Category 2, and ISO 9001. Here, trained controllers will know who you are, where you are, and what you would like them to do in an emergency. This could be contacting the Emergency Services, individuals within your organisation, or summoning their 700 vehicle National Response service and directing them to your location. And because the device has 2 way audio, the controllers can listen to the device’s surroundings and talk to the user, if it’s safe to do so.

All the user’s personal details which the controllers see during an alarm activation, can be managed and updated in real-time, 24/7, via Skyguard’s secure online portal, the Customer Service Centre. There is also a full suite of reports available, include mapping software which shows where devices are and the location of alarms that have been activated. The system is so flexible, that devices can be shared between multiple users and allocated to employees at just the click of a button on the customer portal.

An innovative feature unique to this device is the On-demand position request which allows nominated mobile phones to summon the device’s map location position by sending it an SMS message.

The device and SIM card are included free as part of the subscription to the Skyguard service, with prices starting from as little as £8 per month.

The Skyguard service offers people who may have a serious medical condition lead a more independent life with a certain confidence.

This service uses the GPS technology within a mobile phone and when the owner or user of the phone needs to alert somebody to a situation, they get immediately connected to Skyguards Incident Management Centre which runs twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. The trained response teams can locate the user’s precise location and who they are from information they have stored on their databases.

If it is safe and possible to do so the response team will talk to the user and listen to them, assessing and managing the situation and alerting the appropriate emergency services or responses teams needed and guiding them to the exact location.
