Television programmes such as Spooks and 24 can make us believe that we live in a paranoid world where our emails and calls are spied on by our employers and the government.
When employers approach employees with the news that a vehicle tracking system is going to be installed into their work vehicle, they can perceive the news negatively and see it as another symptom of our ‘Big Brother’ world.
It’s true that vehicle tracking protects the company’s interests, as Managers can see where their employees are and if they are fulfilling their working hours. However, vehicle tracking can also benefit employees.
Some vehicle tracking systems have an application that will sense if a vehicle has been involved in an accident and a member of the call centre team will call the driver to ascertain if they are ok. If they receive no response then the emergency services will be contacted and the exact location of the vehicle can be reported. This can save lives.
Employees that are working hard on behalf of their employer can be recognised for their efforts with the data downloaded from a vehicle tracking system. This can lead to promotion opportunities or the chance for further training, to develop more skills and aid personal development.
