Tracking systems work by utilising data from satellites to determine the longitude and latitude of an object in real time. This is known as GPS and was first developed by the American military, being sanctioned for public use a few years later, with a downgraded accuracy reading. The accuracy of civilian GPS is now approximately 1 metre, and the system is still maintained by the American military. Europe is now developing their own GPS system, which will be named Galileo.
There are many different ways that GPS data can be used. One of the most developing applications is vehicle tracking systems, of which there are many types to choose from. There are many benefits of installing a vehicle tracking system not only for companies but also for parents. With a vehicle tracking system installed, parents can have the peace of mind of knowing where their young drivers are, without cramping them.
Other tracking systems are also becoming more popular, especially in America, such as pet tracking and phone tracking. In pet tracking, a device is installed into your pet’s collar and if the pet goes missing then you can trace them and ensure that they are safe. In phone tracking a GPS tracking device is installed into a phone. This feature is popular with parents and with companies providing essential services which may involve unpredictable situations, such as with the emergency services.
